The Centralia College women’s basketball team went into halftime Tuesday down by nine points, but went into the fourth quarter up by 11, beating Mt. Hood 68-56 thanks in large part to a 32-point third quarter.

Tonight in the second half we made the needed adjustments to approach our defense together,” first-year CC coach Tiffany Twiddy said. “And the offense followed.”

That it certainly did. The Blazers (3-5) forced 13 turnovers in the third quarter alone — they forced 11 in the other three combined — and at the other end of the floor shot 68 percent from the field.

Maya Barnett led a balanced scoring effort with 19 points, while Foai Pula had 14 and Marsani Cannon and Madison Gore both scored 13. Barnett also dished out five assists, Gore had eight rebounds and four steals and Kate Carpenter led the way down low with nine rebounds and four blocks.

CC is set to play at Edmonds on Wednesday, then host Spokane on Friday as part of the Blazer Classic.
