Centralia Approves Chehalis’ Decant Facility Use in Interlocal Agreement

During a Tuesday night meeting, the Centralia City Council approved an interlocal agreement allowing the City of Chehalis to use Centralia’s Regional Decant Facility, located at 2600 Reynolds Ave., to deposit and process material collected by street sweepers and vacuum trucks.

The City of Chehalis will make a one-time $50,000 payment to the City of Centralia for facility use, plus an extra per-yard fee of deposited materials to be calculated every six months.

“It’ll vary from about $22 to $40 per yard. Every six months we’ll take the costs of operating that facility, testing, running the trauma screen, labor, disposing of solid waste, all that gets calculated with all the yards of material and that’s the fee,” said Centralia Public Works Director Kim Ashmore.

Chehalis City Council approved the interlocal agreement in their own regular meeting on Dec. 12, 2022.
