The Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce has officially opened registrations for its first 3-on-3 Streetball Festival sponsored by Lucky Eagle Casino & Hotel, according to a news release from the chamber.

Taking place near downtown Chehalis, the tournament will be held on Aug. 5 and 6. Basketball courts will be placed on Pacific Avenue in Chehalis, ensuring participants and spectators will have easy access to downtown shopping and dining as well.

Each team will consist of four players in one of three divisions depending on age. Youth division players will consist of high school players, the adult division will be players ages 18 through 54 and the silver division will be players 55 and older.

To register a team, visit http://chamberway.com/ and click on the “Events” tab. Registration fees for adult and silver division players are $40 per person, $160 per team. For youth teams, the fee is $140, $35 per player.

“We are enthusiastic about bringing the excitement of street-style basketball to our downtown core,” Chamber Director Cynthia Mudge said in the release. “Chehalis and Centralia are perfectly situated to attract players from Vancouver to Seattle, but we are anxious to see locals take over the courts and have fun.”

The event’s director is Josef Chirthart, head coach of Centralia College’s mens’ basketball team, who has also coached at Tenino High School and created the Tenino Youth Basketball League.

“This is such a great opportunity to get to know and work within the community,” Chirthart said in the release. “Historically, I’ve worked exclusively with youth and now I get to expand my passion to young adults and older players.”

Special room rates for the weekend will be available at the Lucky Eagle Casino & Hotel. While The Silver Agency and The Chronicle are sponsoring the event stage, the chamber is still looking for more sponsors for backboards, hoops, player basketballs or prizes.

Any interested businesses can contact the chamber at 360-748-8885 or thechamber@chamberway.com.
