The Centralia City Council addressed a number of agenda items at its regular meeting Tuesday, Dec. 13, including the approval of an addendum to a water rights purchase from TransAlta that allows the City of Chehalis to purchase its own water rights. The move was also approved at the Chehalis City Council meeting the night before.

Additionally, funding allocation recommendations from the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) were approved and the council appointed Jan Nontell to the Historic Preservation Commission.

LTAC funding allocation recommendations totalled $248,782, the amount of  funds projected to be available in 2023. Earlier this year, funding requests given to LTAC totaled $331,728 and came from six different entities. The money is generated from a tax on hotels and motels in the city.

Though the entities didn’t get their full requests, with the exception of the city itself, funds were granted as follows:

• ARTrails of Southwest Washington — $10,000

• Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce — $10,000

• Centralia Downtown Association — $46,000

• Downtown Centralia Festivals Association — $32,000

• Lewis County Historical Society — $2,000

• City of Centralia — $148,782

Originally, ARTrails requested $18,000, the Chamber of Commerce requested $40,000, the Centralia Downtown Association requested $70,000, the Downtown Centralia Festivals Association requested $50,000 and Lewis County Historical Society requested $5,000.
