Centralia City Council Approves Zoning Changes for Flood Safety

Posted

On Tuesday night, the Centralia City Council voted unanimously to approve changes to the city’s zoning code.

The zoning changes were proposed to improve flood safety and comply with requirements for the National Flood Insurance Program.

Among the new zoning rules will be a requirement for all newly constructed houses to be elevated 3 feet above the base flood elevation, which would be in line with current requirements for essential public facilities.
