Centralia College holds ribbon cutting for new nursing simulation lab

Centralia College’s nursing students now have a simulated hospital setting where they can hone their skills.

The nursing program held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for the new Nursing Simulation Lab, located inside the Walton Science Center at the college’s Centralia campus, on Thursday, Jan. 11.

Students have been able to use the lab since September, according to the Centralia College Nursing Director Jenny Bauska.

The lab consists of two simulation hospital rooms, each equipped with the equipment medical staff would find in a real hospital, as well as a patient simulator mannequin in a hospital bed. Each room is attached to an observation area, where instructors can watch students through a window and operate the robotic mannequins.

The space allows nursing students to practice without the fear of a mistake harming a patient, which allows them to safely make and learn from mistakes, Bauska said Thursday.
