Centralia Girl Scout Troop 41050 served soup, cornbread muffins and chocolate chip cookies to veterans Monday after raising money for the effort earlier in the year.

In total, the girls served 64 bowls of soup to veterans from the American Legion at their usual Monday night bingo event.

The troop held a “soup-to-go” fundraising event in October during which customers could order soup and other menu items and then pick them up. One of the menu options was to purchase a meal to be donated to a local veteran.

“The girls used the money from these donations and some of their troop funds to put together the soup event at the Legion hall,” wrote Megan Berry, of Centralia. “All of the food they served was homemade by the troop members and their leaders and they received many compliments on their delicious meals.

The Girl Scouts thanked Judy Carter with the Legion for working with them to coordinate the event.

“They would also like to thank the customers from their soup-to-go event who donated meals and the Fords Prairie Grange for allowing them to use their kitchen for preparation,” Berry wrote. “Lastly, the girls would like to express their gratitude to all veterans for their service to our country.”
