Bail has been set at $50,000 for a Centralia man accused of strangling a woman on Sunday.

The defendant, Vuth Vinn, 39, is accused of striking the victim in the face “several times with an open hand” before choking her, according to court documents.

When officers responded to the Centralia residence where the incident was reported, Vinn “stepped into the hallway, immediately turned away from (the officer), placed his hands behind his back and stated ‘I guess you guys are going to arrest me,’” according to court documents.

He was booked into the Lewis County Jail at 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 30 and has since been charged with one count of second-degree assault, domestic violence.

At the time of his arrest, Vinn was out of custody on $5,000 unsecured bail for five counts of felony theft stemming from an unrelated incident.

In that case, Vinn is accused of stealing company debit cards from the Elite Mining Inc. in Chehalis and running 18 unauthorized debits — totaling $10,500 — and seven unauthorized ATM transactions, totaling $2,800, from a Washington State Employees Credit Union ATM between Dec. 28, 2021 and May 7, 2022.

He pleaded not guilty to one count of first-degree theft and four counts of second-degree theft on Sept. 1. The case is scheduled to go to trial on Dec. 19.

Given the pending case and the alleged facts of the most-recent offense, Lewis County Superior Court Judge James Lawler granted Deputy Prosecutor Scott Jackson’s requests for $50,000 bail and a no-contact order protecting the alleged victim on Monday.

Vinn’s next court appearance is an arraignment hearing scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 3.
