A Centralia Middle School student was recognized last week as the first-ever district student to earn a perfect score on the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) in English Language Arts.
According to the Centralia School District, Alice Blomstrom aced the test last spring.
“To our knowledge, this is the first time ever a middle school student in our district has reached this incredible milestone,” the district posted on Facebook. “The SBA is intentionally designed to challenge students, so much so that it's expected everyone will miss at least one question.”
SBA tests are used by Washington state schools to help determine a student’s college readiness. Students are placed in Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 based on their score, with Levels 3 and 4 signifying that a student is on track for college and career readiness.
A perfect score, however, is a rare feat.
“That's what makes this accomplishment truly extraordinary,” the district wrote.
