Centralia Police Department Welcomes New Officer Daniel Cox

The Centralia Police Department has a new officer among its ranks.

Daniel Cox was sworn in by Centralia Police Chief Stacy Denham at the Centralia City Council’s regular meeting Tuesday night.

Denham introduced him to the council and those in attendance.

Cox is a Lewis County native and 2005 W.F. West High School graduate.

“He went to the University of Washington for two years where he also played baseball. At the end of the two years, Daniel was drafted by the New York Yankees,” Denham said, adding later, “He actually spent approximately a year with their minor league team.”

He returned to Washington state following the minor league stint and worked at the Snoqualmie Falls Golf Course and Microsoft, testing video games while he went back to school to finish his bachelor’s degree.

Daniel Cox then enlisted in the Navy and served seven years before receiving an honorable discharge and returning to Washington once again.

“Daniel then came back and went to work for the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office there as a corrections officer. In 2021, he actually joined the Chehalis Police Department as a police officer, went through the academy there, and he worked there until we hired him on Feb. 1 of this year,” said Denham.

Since he’s already completed academy training, all Cox has to do now is complete field training, according to Denham. Following his introduction, Denham had Cox read the law enforcement code of ethics before administering the oath of office.

His wife, Melissa Cox, pinned his badge. Both of their children, Thomas and Vivian, were present.
