Addressing false online rumors of a drive-by shooting Sunday night, the Centralia Police Department has issued a news release clarifying the incident.

At 7:09 p.m., Centralia police officers responded to a reported shooting complaint at The Salvation Army emergency shelter, located at 115 N. Gold St.

“Officers arrived and immediately identified that the incident did not involve a firearm and no injuries were sustained,” according to the news release.

Officers were able to enter a suspect’s vehicle description into the Flock Security camera system, which identified a matching vehicle leaving the area.

“Officers contacted a person of interest associated with the vehicle,” the department stated. “The investigation revealed that an adult male drove the vehicle while a juvenile male used a toy gun, which shoots gel style pellets, to shoot at bystanders waiting for the shelter to open,” the department stated.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information is being released at this time, according to the department.

Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call the Centralia

Police Department at 360-330-7680 or Lewis County Communications at 360-740-1105.
