Centralia, Rochester compete in Centerville Tournament

The Centralia and Rochester volleyball teams competed in the Centerville tournament, an eight-team tournament that took place at Centralia high school on Saturday.

Centralia finished tied for first in Group A, a group that included Forks, Shelton and Willapa Valley. Forks had the tiebreaker over Centralia to win the group.

Rochester was in Group B with Lakes, Aberdeen and Raymond-South Bend, and the Warriors finished fourth.

In bracket play, Centralia swept RSB before falling to Lakes, the eventual champions, in the semifinals. Rochester was swept by Forks.

Across all games, Makayla Chavez finished with 25 kills and went 26 of 27 serving with four aces for the Tigers. Selah Calkins led the team with 13 aces, and Gracie Schofield led the way defensively with 31 digs. Calkin and McKenna Smith combined for 95 assists.



Both Centralia and Rochester return to the court on Tuesday, when the Tigers will host Tumwater and Rochester will go north to face Black Hills. Both matches will start at 7 p.m.

Pirates win their own tournament

South of the Hub City, Adna hosted its own Season Opener Tournament, and proceeded to win the top prize, beating Tenino in the finals.

Toledo came in third place.
