A Centralia woman accused of hiding methamphetamine inside a Bible that was delivered to the Lewis County Jail in August has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge in Lewis County Superior Court.

She was scheduled to move forward with a trial setting hearing on Thursday.

The defendant, Nicole Sharp, 28, allegedly selected a Bible to purchase from a Chehalis book store, placed a baggie of methamphetamine inside the spine of the book and glued the spine shut. She bought the Bible and asked to have it delivered to the Lewis County Jail, according to court documents.

A bookstore employee reportedly noticed glue on the book’s spine when Sharp purchased it on Aug. 16. A patron in the store reportedly told the employee they saw Sharp put a baggie in the book’s spine, according to court documents.

The bookstore delivered the Bible to the jail on Sharp’s behalf and informed the jail that the book “might have a problem,” according to court documents.

Jail staff gave the Bible to the jail administrator, who found the baggie of methamphetamine stuffed into the spine.

The Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office charged Sharp with one count of attempted delivery of methamphetamine, a class B felony with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, later that month. She had her preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court in late September and pleaded not guilty during an arraignment hearing soon after.

Her next court appearance is a trial setting hearing scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 6.
