Centralia’s Beatbox Donuts temporarily closes after owner suffers heart attack

Beatbox Donuts has been temporarily closed after owner Steve Hubbard suffered a heart attack on Tuesday, July 28.

The temporary closure was announced on the Beatbox Donuts Facebook page.

The donut shop was first opened about a year and a half ago as a mobile business in a trailer serving mini-donuts outside of the Pearl Street Market and has since grown into a downtown Centralia establishment with a lounge serving both mini and full-sized donuts and more.

“Steve, owner of Beatbox Donuts, suffered a heart attack and has been transported for emergency surgery,” Lisa Striedinger-Hubbard, Steve’s wife, stated on Facebook. “As our family focuses on his recovery, many members of our community have asked how they can help, so we provided our Cash App information below for anyone who wishes to support our family during this difficult time. Your prayers, encouragement and support mean more to us than words can express. Thank you for being a part of the Beatbox Donuts family.”

For those looking to donate on Cash App can send money to Lisa’s profile, $superstriedie.

A former employee at local car dealerships with previous experience in the restaurant industry, Steve opened Beatbox Donuts in order to be his own boss, as previously reported by The Chronicle.

Initially, he was considering opening a buffalo wing food truck, but he eventually settled on making donuts instead — despite not actually liking donuts himself. The main reasons were donuts are simpler to produce, and he didn’t have to deal with the stringent health code requirements that come with storing and serving poultry products.

Steve also chose to make donuts because during his research before opening Beatbox Donuts, he discovered that local donut lovers were forced to travel to either Seattle or Portland in order to get the pastries hot and fresh.

Beatbox Donuts is located at 209 S. Tower Ave. in downtown Centralia.
