Centralia’s Reynolds Avenue to be closed next week while railroad is replaced

Starting next Monday, Oct. 7, commuters using Reynolds Avenue to travel between North Pearl Street and Harrison Avenue in Centralia will have to find an alternate route as railroad crossing maintenance will be performed on the crossing beneath Interstate 5.

The closure will last at least until Friday, Oct. 11, while work is carried out by Puget Sound & Pacific Railroad, according to Centralia City Engineer Patty Page, who announced the upcoming work during last week’s Centralia City Council meeting.

“The railroad will be shutting down that crossing under I-5 for an entire week the week of Oct. 7, and it will be a 24-hour closure. They have to remove all the track and they have to replace it,” Page said.

Those living in the area will still have local access. However, all other traffic must take an alternate route, and the city is working with the Centralia School District to find alternate bus routes as well.

“(Puget Sound & Pacific Railroad) has told me that they will get it done as soon as they can and will open it up as soon as it’s done,” Page added. “But, they wanted to ensure they had a full week to get that work done in case they run into any issues.”
