More than 2,300 of the Chehalis School District's more than 2,900 students started school Tuesday.

Staff at W.F. West High School, Chehalis Middle School and Orin Smith Elementary welcomed students in grades 3-12 back into the classroom.

"Throughout my educational career, the first day of school continues to be one of the most exciting days of the year," Chehalis School District Superintendent Rick Goble said. "I love to see the smiles on everyone's faces from teachers and staff to parents and students. Today's energy is invigorating."

Chehalis students in grades 1-2 and their families had scheduled conferences Tuesday and then students had their first day of school Wednesday, Sept. 4. Incoming kindergarteners and their families will have WaKIDS conferences for the next two days and then will have their first day in class on Friday, Sept. 6.
