Chehalis man acquitted on rape charges

A man accused of raping a woman while she was intoxicated at a party in Lewis County in 2021 has been acquitted after a trial in Lewis County Superior Court.

Jacob Burgess, 26, of Centralia, was charged with one count each of second-degree and third-degree rape on Aug. 13, 2023, for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman twice while she was intoxicated and incapable of consenting during a party on or about April 14, 2021.



The case went to trial on March 5, 2024, with a jury ultimately acquitting Burgess on both charges on Friday, March 8.

Burgess was out of custody for the entirety of the case. A no-contact order protecting the woman has been rescinded.
