A 33-year-old Chehalis woman was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital after she was injured while riding as a passenger in a vehicle that struck the side barrier twice and was hit by a semi-truck on southbound Interstate 5 near Maytown Monday night.

The unidentified male driver of the vehicle that the Chehalis woman was a passenger in fled the scene and is facing possible felony hit-and-run charges, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The vehicle, a white 2011 Volkswagen Golf, was reportedly traveling southbound on I-5 when it left the roadway and struck the right side barrier near milepost 96, according to the Washington State Patrol.

After striking the barrier, the Volkswagen returned to the roadway facing the wrong way and was struck by a semi in the right lane.

The Volkswagen then struck the barrier a second time and came to rest in the left lane.

The semi, driven by a 56-year-old Roy man, came to rest on the right shoulder. The driver of the semi was not injured in the crash.

The Washington State Patrol was dispatched to the scene just after 11:55 p.m.

The left lane was blocked for approximately six hours after the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to the state patrol.
