Originally set to start Monday, July 29, chip seal work in Chehalis has been delayed.

The work was scheduled for Southwest Cascade Avenue from West Main Street down to Southwest 13th Street, and neighborhood streets along Southeast Fairview Avenue behind Grace Church.

Weather caused the delay.

“Because of inclement weather, the chip seal program has been delayed a week and will start (Monday) Aug. 5, and will continue for approximately three weeks,” the release stated.

Once started, motorists are asked to drive slowly and with caution. Chip seal work will be carried out Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

With the work being weather dependent, more inclement weather could cause more delays. Funding for the chip sealing comes from the city’s street preservation program.

“We thank you for your cooperation during these weeks and we will be moving as quickly as we can,” the release added.
