City of Chehalis Details Use of Transportation Tax Revenue for Road Projects

The fiscal year 2021 was the fourth year that the Transportation Benefit District (TBD) has been fully operational in Chehalis. The city has now released an annual report revealing how the collected tax revenue was spent.

In total, Chehalis saw five projects completed last year with construction on Pacific Avenue coming close to completion as well.

So far, $490,666.36 has gone into the Pacific Avenue project.

The other completed projects included work on Main Street at a cost of $586,495.01 that saw grind and overlay work as well as Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalk ramps installed.

Chehalis Avenue also saw some improvements costing $46,001.60 and a new parking lot at Penny Playground cost $105,406.53 and included curbs, gutters and sidewalks.

Improvements to Sitka Avenue came at a cost of $85,209.48 and included new sections of roadway, curbs, gutters and sewers.



Reconstruction on Snively Avenue cost $85,536.79 and involved water drainage and sewage work, curbs, gutters and roadway repairs.

An additional $6,454.13 was spent on curb installations as well as $12,279.20 on operating supplies and professional services.

At the beginning of fiscal year 2021, the City of Chehalis had a total of $3,105,160.51 in cash resources. The additional revenue that the City of Chehalis received in 2021 from the sales tax was $1,384,584.97 and total expenditures during the year were $1,418,049.10.

This left the city with $3,071,696.38 in cash resources at the end of the fiscal year.

Aside from the work still being done on Pacific Avenue, the City of Chehalis also has construction projects on National Avenue and Chehalis Avenue in the works for fiscal year 2022, coming at an estimated cost of $2,660,388.00.
