Having served the City of Chehalis for more than 36 years after originally being elected a city councilor in 1987, Isaac Pope will attend his final city council meeting on Monday, Dec. 11, after announcing earlier this year he would not seek re-election.

Prior to the meeting, Pope’s fellow councilors and city staff will host a farewell reception for him, beginning at 4 p.m. and going until the meeting starts at 5 p.m., according to a City of Chehalis news release. Once the meeting starts, a formal recognition ceremony will also be held to honor him.

The public is invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served during the reception courtesy of city staff.

“Dr. Pope has spent his tenure as a councilor placing careful consideration in decisions that affected the entirety of the community,” the release stated. “He has maintained a steadfast passion for Chehalis and has helped to progress many projects forward for the betterment of the residents within the city.”

Some of the projects Pope helped progress during his time in office include the Chehalis Foundation, Pope’s Kids Place, the sewage treatment plant’s construction, Lintott-Alexander Park, the purchase of two ladder trucks for the Chehalis Fire Department and helping draft and pass 35 fiscal year budgets for the city, according to the release.

“The reception will be an opportunity for the community to wish Dr. Pope and his wife, Joe, well in their new endeavors,” the release stated.

Both events will take place in the council’s chambers at Chehalis City Hall, located at 350 N. Market Blvd.
