From 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, City of Chehalis staff will host a public meeting at Chehalis City Hall to allow residents the chance to review and comment on the city’s new draft water system plan and water use efficiency goals, according to a city news release.

Chehalis City Hall is at 350 N. Market Blvd.

The release stated the draft water system plan ensures the city’s water system is in compliance with Washington state standards when it comes to water source protection, quality, system capacity and efficiency. It also projects estimated water use through 2040.

Using those projections, the plan identifies capital improvement projects that will be needed to address projected water deficiencies through 2040. That includes a financial program to fund the improvement projects through 2030, according to the release.

Along with the draft plan, Chehalis residents will also have the chance to comment on the city’s water use efficiency goals during the meeting. The goals are part of the city’s Water Use Efficiency Program, required by the Washington state Department of Health.

The last time the city updated its Water Use Efficiency Program was in 2009. New draft goals were developed as part of the new draft water system plan. They can be found in chapter four of the draft available on the city’s website.

“In developing these goals, public input was requested in a public hearing held on June 24, 2019, for which there was no public comment,” the release stated.
