The Adna High School wrestling program will use the $9,150 raised earlier this month during the Clam and Corn Feed to purchase new wrestling mats, head coach Craig Ferrier told The Chronicle.

Jim and Cindy Smith hosted the all-you-can-eat Adna Clam and Corn Feed at the Adna Grange on Sept. 21.

It was co-sponsored by Uncle Jim’s Smokehouse and Adna Grocery, which are both owned by the Smiths.

“Our program had a goal to raise funds for new wrestling mats and this money will get us most of the way there,” Ferrier said in a Sept. 25 email to The Chronicle. “Beyond the money, as a coach, parent and member of the Adna community, it was such a pleasure to be a part of an event that brings us together.”

The Smiths and Adna Grocery regularly hold fundraisers to benefit Adna students, including the Adna Sausage Fest that raised $3,859 for the girls basketball team in May and the Adna Crab Feed that raised $5,342 for the school’s football program in April.

The Smiths also hosted the Adna Car Show in July, raising funds for the Adna Scholarship Committee. The event was in its fifth year. The car show in Adna raised $7,798 in 2020, $16,698 in 2021, $17,680 in 2022 and $29,350 in 2023.

“Jim and Cindy have been such an integral part of this — whether it is the crab or sausage feeds that they started, or the annual car show that they organize, these events not only raise money for different programs but it brings our community together,” Ferrier said. “These events give community members that may not have any ties to the school an opportunity to be served by students from our school and see how great our kids are, and how willing they are to help to achieve the goals that we as a program have set.  I know that Jim and Cindy are modest individuals, but they both have worked tirelessly in order for these events to take place, and for that a ‘thank you’ is not enough.”
