2B squads sweep SWW Senior All-Star Games

After finishing the season with a state championship and a multitude of teams playing in trophy games at the state tournament in Spokane, the Class 2B/1B boys and girls showed out one final time on Saturday night.

Behind an MVP performance from Napavine’s Keira O’Neill, the 2B girls got out ahead of the 2A girls midway through the third quarter and never looked back en route to a double-digit win in the Southwest Washington senior all-star game at Centralia College.

Players from both sides donned Centralia’s jerseys, but it was far from a typical all-star game. Both rosters were playing defense every possession, battling for rebounds. Winlock’s Kindyl Kelly got a scare of an injury late in the fourth quarter.

Napavine head coach Shane Schutz got to coach O’Neill, Dakota Hamilton and Grace Gall for the last time. O’Neill and Rainier’s Haleigh Hanson participated in the Rainier Icebreaker earlier on Saturday.

No official stats were sent from the game.

The 2B boys plus Mossyrock’s Zack Munoz and Oakville’s Courtney Price clipped the 2A squad 121-120 as over 100 combined 3-pointers were shot. Toutle Lake’s Zach Swanson was named the MVP after a 24-point, seven-rebound performance in what was potentially his final basketball game of his career.

Six players from the 2B squad scored double figures. Adna’s Braeden Salme put up 22 points and Napavine’s James Grose added 19 points. Munoz grabbed a team-best 11 rebounds as they did not attempt a free throw.

Mark Morris’ Brayden Olson poured in a 2A-high 27 points and Black Hills’ Simon Nysted chipped in 26 points. W.F. West’s Parker Eiswald snared a game-high 16 boards.
