Coast Guard rescues people trapped in home by Grays River flooding

Four people were trapped in their home due to flooding from the Grays River near Astoria, Ore., on Tuesday and had to be rescued by the Coast Guard.

The Cathlamet Fire Department requested helicopter support in Rosburg, Wahkiakum County, around 10:30 a.m. from the Coast Guard Sector Columbia River. The four people were trapped in their home with 4 feet of water surrounding it, according to the Coast Guard.

A helicopter aircrew sent from the Coast Guard Air Station in Astoria to assist arrived shortly after 11 a.m. and helped an individual who reported being trapped on a truck in the water.



The aircrew hoisted the individual from the truck to the helicopter and returned to the flooded house, hoisting the four people. The Rosburg residents were taken to the air station in Astoria for emergency medical services and were in stable condition.
