Southwest Washington Mycological Society Meeting

April 4 at Lewis Fire District 6 Station 61, 2123 Jackson Highway, Chehalis; 6 p.m.

The Southwest Washington Mycological Society is inviting community members to attend its next meeting and hear from the mycologist Daniel Winkler, who the club describes as a “distinguished guest.” Winkler will be sharing his knowledge of edible mushrooms in the Pacific Northwest with his new book “Fruits of the Forest — Handbook to Edible Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest.” He will discuss the identification, collection, preparation and storage of choice edible mushrooms as well as the different habitats and seasonality of mushrooms. Winkler will also share “fungal fun”and facts from his ethno-mycological research and “mushroaming” adventure travels.

Historic Barbershop Ribbon-Cutting

April 5 at The Historic Barbershop, 105 W. Main St., Centralia; noon

The Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting for the Historic Barbershop with owners Gil and Janet Hernandez on hand for the celebration. There will be coupons and refreshments.

Community Crime Deterrent Program 

April 5 and 19 at the Toledo Presbyterian Church, 312 Augustus St., Toledo; 6 to 8 p.m.

This is a defensive tactics class for adult women and girls 18 and under. The class will be taught by a former U.S. Army combative instructor and a martial arts teacher. There will be six other classes at later dates with two classes a month, rotating at each of the four community churches in Toledo. The classes are free.

Acoustic Music Jam 

April 7 at the Faith Baptist Church, 436 Coal Creek Road, Chehalis; 10 a.m. to noon

The Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association will host the event. The event is free and open to the public. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend. Attendees do not need to be members of the Washington Old Time Fiddlers. For more information, call 360-791-5185.

Gardening for Everyone

April 8 at Centralia College’s Washington Hall, 600 Centralia College Blvd., Centralia; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is a Master Gardener event. There will be multiple workshops offered during different sessions throughout the day. The first session will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m., the second session from 10:45 to 12:15 p.m. and the third session from 12:45 to 2:15. Pre-registration is not required. The Lilies of the Field

This event is a women’s spring luncheon. Attendees are encouraged to come early for parking and group seating. There will be a speech by professional speaker and author Lois Williams of Lacey. Chico’s Outlet Wardrobe Rewards Event

April 13 at Chico’s Outlet, 1312 Lum Road, Centralia; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

While shopping at the sales event, attendees can enter to win a raffle gift basket. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
