David Sexsmith won the Lewis County Chapter of Washington State Music Teachers Association’s annual play-off competition last week at the Chehalis Seventh-Day Adventist Church, according to a news release.
Sexsmith, 16, was part of a field of seven students competing to be selected as Lewis County representative to the Washington State Music Teachers Conference in June at Central Washington University in Ellensburg.
Sexsmith, son of Evelyn and James Sexsmith, of Centralia, performed Malaguena by Lecuona.
Norman Ballif, 11, son of Joe and Monica Ballif, of Chehalis, placed second with a performance of The Storm by Burgmuller.
Both are students of Kay Morton, Napavine.
Liesel Stout, 15, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Stout, Centralia, received honorable mention after performing Minuet in G by Beethoven. Stout is a student of Judy Meyers, Chehalis.
These students will perform at the WSMTA District Honors Recital at 1:30 p.m. on May 3 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Centralia, the release stated.
The Honors Recital is open to the public and features students from four other counties.
