Rep. Richard DeBolt, R-Chehalis, has been named ranking Republican of the House Capital Budget Committee, House Republicans said in a news release Tuesday.

As the ranking Republican, DeBolt will be responsible for negotiating with the chair of the House Capital Budget Committee on a final capital budget.

Referred to as the “bricks and mortar” budget, the capital budget provides funding and bonds for long-term infrastructure needs throughout the state, including schools, hospitals and prisons. In recent years, the Capital Budget also has become the source of funding for local flood relief measures, according to House Republicans.

The 2013-15 capital budget, which passed with strong bipartisan support on the last day of the second special session, included $28.2 million for flood protection in the Chehalis River Basin.

DeBolt, a lawmaker for the 20th District, replaces Rep. Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, who was selected caucus chair of the Washington House Republicans in late April.
