DeGoede Bulb Farm in Mossyrock Shutting Down; Owners Hope to Sell But Have No Buyer

The DeGoede Bulb Farm, a Mossyrock staple for nearly 50 years, will be closing this summer as the current owners, brothers Jack and Bob DeGoede, are retiring, according to a report in the July edition of Business To Business.

As for the bulb farm’s future, the 160-acre parcel it sits on is still currently for sale. Of those 160 acres, 5 acres contain greenhouses while another 5 acres are ground plots for seedlings.

The brothers told Business To Business that while there have been queries by interested buyers, no serious sale discussions have started with anyone yet.

“We anticipate ending the wholesale segment of our business toward the end of June,” Bob DeGoede said.

Retail sales are expected to continue through the end of summer.

None of the DeGoedes’ relatives are interested in taking over the farm, especially one with such a wide variety of crops to manage, according to the report. The DeGoede family originally moved to Mossyrock in 1976 from the Mount Vernon area in Skagit County.

Originally, they were bulb and vegetable farmers, but started to grow perennials due to competition from other bulb growers. Eventually, they began growing more varieties of flowers and selling more potted plants and hanging baskets.

DeGoede Bulb Farm is located at 409 Mossyrock Road W. just off state U.S. Highway 12. It is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
