Dorey Leads Hallom in Tight Assessor's Race After Initial Count

Posted

Lewis County Assessor Dianne Dorey holds a razor-thin lead over challenger Candy Hallom.

Dorey collected 50.68 percent of the initial ballots with a total of 7,908 votes. Hallom, the clerk of the Board of Equalization and an administrative aide to the Lewis County Commission, garnered 49.32 percent of the initial count with 7,695 votes.

Both candidates are Republicans.

The next count is scheduled to be conducted Friday. The Lewis County Auditor's Office estimates there are 3,500 ballots left to be counted, meaning the race is too close to call.
