Pre-registration for the Saturday, Oct. 21, Expanding Your Horizons half-day conference has ended, but girls in grades six through nine can still register in person on the day of the conference, organizers announced Sunday.

Participants will attend two science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) hands-on workshops where they learn from successful women about why they chose their field, what they do and what education is required to enter their profession.

Workshops will be assigned on the basis of available space for those registering on the day of the event.

All participants can attend an assembly where students will help representatives from the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry demonstrate the predictable, and sometimes unpredictable, properties of solids, liquids, gasses and plasmas.

To register day-of, go to Washington Hall, 715 W. Pear St. at Centralia College,  between 7:45 and 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. A parent or guardian must be present to sign the registration form. The $10 program fee may be paid in cash or check, or the participant can request a scholarship to cover the fee. The conference ends at noon.
