The Oakville and Rainier cross country teams headed to the mouth of the Willapa River for Willapa Valley’s Riverwoods meet, and both the Acorns and Mountaineers came back with something to show for it.

The Mountaineers won both team events, edging out Ilwaco in the boys’ race and winning the girls’ by default as the only school to have at least five runners.

Madison Ingram came in first for the girls with a time of 19:41.13. Behind her, Angelica Askey (21:43.81) beat out Rayanna Wisner (21:44.69) for second, putting three Mountaineers across the line before anybody else came in.

Ella Marvin took fifth with a time of 22:19.37, and Kinsley Barlow (22:41.97) rounded out the team score at 22:41.97.

Oakville eighth grader Cecil Gumaelius won the boys’ race as the only Acorn in the event, with a time of 17:41.89. Behind him, Rainier’s James Meldrum finished second in 18:04.58.

Jake Hanseon placed sixth for Rainier in 19:18.93, Zander Peck was 10th in 19:47.86, Ean Viik was 12th at 20:00.31, and Owen Timbers was 14th in 20:17.51.

Carmella Gumaelius placed 11th for the Acorns in the girls’ race with a time of 24:46.29.
