Hall and Carper Help Cardinals Blast Rockets

Addison Hall nearly tallied a triple double and Charlie Carper added a double-double as Winlock hammered visiting Castle Rock for a 51-31, non-league victory at home on Wednesday.

Hall scored a game-high 19 points to go with 10 rebounds and seven assists, including 15 points at the half. Pe Ell’s Charlie Carper added 13 points, 10 boards and four steals herself to help the Cardinals snap a two-game losing skid.

It was an impressive win considering post Madison Vigre was out, which thrust Kiya Peppers and Maia Chaney into some crucial minutes, and both excelled.

“After losing to Napavine, we’ve spent a lot of time running a set offense,” Winlock coach Dracy McCoy said. “That was a big focus tonight and the girls did a good job running that. Peppers and Chaney did a great job in the flow of that.”

Chaney finished with eight points while Peppers contributed seven rebounds and a bucket and Kindyl Kelly chipped in nine points and swiped four steals.

The Cardinals shot well from long range, hitting 5 of 6, and was 14 of 46 from the field (30%). They dominated the boards as well, winning the rebound battle 33-18 and forcing the Rockets into 19 turnovers.

Winlock improves to 5-3 overall and hosts Toledo in a Central 2B League matchup on Jan. 5.
