Happy ending for dog, eight puppies found abandoned in Columbia River Gorge

A dog and her eight puppies were found by rescuers after being abandoned in Skamania County.

Volunteers from Knotty Creek Animal Rescue drove up from Sweet Home to care for the dogs after a local family found the mom and her puppies in a forested area, Bailey Porter, a spokesperson for the rescue, said.

The family who found the dogs posted about them to social media. The Knotty Creek rescue had room for all nine dogs and offered to take them.

KATU reported that the dog was found tied to a tree in a forested area with her puppies nearby.

The shelter volunteers believe that the dogs are central Asian shepherds and that the puppies are between nine and 12 weeks old. They are planning to have the dogs DNA tested before they become available for adoption.

Porter said that the mother dog is “sweet as they get,” and that the rescue is hoping all nine dogs – mom and eight puppies – will be adopted soon.

Knotty Creek Rescue is fundraising for the care of the puppies on their website.
