The Black Hills’ girls’ basketball team won its home opener on Friday, topping River Ridge 66-60.

After a high-scoring first quarter where the two teams combined for 44 points, both defenses clamped down in the second, where the two teams combined for just five points.

The offenses got rolling again in the second half, as six players ended with 10 or more points. Black Hills entered the fourth with a 13-point lead, and while the Hawks put their foot on the gas pedal in the fourth, the Wolves did enough to come away with the win.

Ashley Harris was stellar scoring and on the glass for the Wolves (2-0), tallying 19 points while also grabbing 19 rebounds. Kiley McMahon added 15 points and Tyler Venable scored 14.

For River Ridge, Makiah Wilbourn led the team with 15 points, Mya Armstrong scored 13 and Jasmeed Kaur had 10.
