High winds to blow through Southwest Washington on Tuesday, possible rain and snow mix forecast for the rest of the week

If you haven’t taken down your holiday yard displays yet, Tuesday’s 30 to 50 mph winds may take them down for you.

A National Weather Service wind advisory for the Lower Chehalis Valley area and the southwest interior region, which includes most of western Lewis and Thurston counties, is in effect from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

The National Weather Service encourages residents and visitors to secure outdoor objects and use extra caution while driving, especially if you’re driving a high profile vehicle. 



East Lewis County is expected to see a mix of rain and snow throughout the week, with the rain and snow mix spreading to western Lewis County as early as Wednesday.

Up at the 2000 foot elevation, which affects White Pass, Paradise and other recreation areas in the Cascades, a National Weather Service blizzard warning is in effect from 4 a.m. Tuesday to 10 a.m. Wednesday. A winter storm warning went into effect at 7 a.m. Monday and remained in effect until 4 a.m. Tuesday.
