Hilanders Too Much for Wolves Down the Stretch

The Black Hills boys basketball team gave Kelso a good shot out of the gate, but fell behind by halftime and lost 58-44 to the 3A Hilanders in Cowlitz County on Tuesday.

Simon Trujillo-Nysted led the Wolves with 17 points. Johnnie Stallings finished with 14 points, six assists, and six rebounds, while Keagan Rongen had 11 points and a team-high eight boards.

Outside of those three, though, Black Hills only had two more points — from Harrison Pilon.

The Wolves led 12-7 after a quarter of play, but allowed an 18-6 run in the second to go into halftime down by seven. After playing their hosts even in the third, Kelso went on one more run late to pull the lead to double-digits for good.

Black Hills (1-3, 1-0 2A EvCo) will return to league play against Shelton on Wednesday.
