Huge Second Quarter Sends Black Hills to Blowout

Centralia stuck around for a quarter, but the Black Hills boys basketball team dispatched the Tigers with a huge second, riding out to a 71-30 win in 2A EvCo play.

The Wolves outscored the Tigers 21-2 in the second period, turning a 16-11 lead after one into a 37-13 advantage at halftime. The Black Hills offense kept rolling into the third quarter, pouring in another 21 points to get the lead past 30.

Simon Nysted led the way with a 19-point effort for the guests, knocking down five 3-pointers. Keagan Rongen put in an 11-point, 16-rebound double double. Harrison Pilon added 10 points, and Johnnie Stallings, Jaxsen Beck, and Xander Shepler all scored eight, with Stallings adding six assists. Shepler and Max Johnson both came away with four steals.

David Daarud had Centralia’s best outing with 11 points, and Cohen Ballard added nine.

Black Hills will wrap up its week at Aberdeen on Friday, while Centralia will dip into non-league play, hosting Montesano.
