I5TMD Caps Doubleheader Sweep With No-Hitter

I-5 Toyota Mountain Dew used three pitchers and allowed six runs, but went the entirety of its second game Wednesday against Rose City Baseball Club without surrendering a hit, winning 9-6 in one of the odder no-hitters you’ll see in Oregon City, Ore.

Ashton Demarest (Napavine) started the game on the bump and tossed four frames, allowing one unearned run on three walks and striking out six. Connor Coleman (W.F. West) came in for the fifth but struggled with his command, walking five of the six batters he faced and only getting one out. Alex Stafford (W.F. West) entered into the jam and let inherited runners score — Rose City struck for four in the frame — but got out of the inning, then tossed the rest of the way.

All told, the I-5 trio allowed 12 free bases, and the fielders behind them committed three errors, letting Rose City come back from a 7-1 deficit to make things interesting.

Demarest also led the way at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Connor Holmes (Napavine) and Ross Kelley (W.F. West) both went 2 for 4 at the top of the I-5 lineup.

The Dewers won Game 1 of the doubleheader in even more dominant fashion, 15-4, scoring 11 unanswered runs to pull away from a 4-4 tie after two innings.

I-5 threw up four crooked numbers, including a seven-spot in the top of the third after Rose City scored four in the second to tie the game up.The first six batters in the Dewer lineup had multi-hit games, with Demarest and Kelley going 3 for 5 and Holmes, Weston Potter (W.F. West), Tate Quarnstrom (Rochester), and Stafford all adding two knocks.

Brady Sprague (Centralia) earned the win, going four innings and striking out eight while allowing four unearned runs. The W.F. West duo of Jax Potter and Miles Martin combined to go nine-up, nine-down in three frames of relief.
