In loving memory of Antonio Cabrera: 1972-2026

Posted

Antonio Cabrera was born Oct. 13, 1972, in Tancítaro, Michoacán, Mexico.

Antonio started working when he was 8, helping his mother sell handmade ice cream and treats. We’re telling you this so you get an idea of the man Antonio was and just part of the legacy he left.

Antonio loved working and helping his family. When he was around 13, he decided school wasn’t for him and began working to build roads in the local community, despite his mother’s wishes.

He continued working and then made the decision to come to the U.S. in 1988. In the early 1990s, he received his permanent resident card. He started working in the forestry industry and, except for one year working on a fishing boat in Alaska, continued his career in the forestry industry up until September of this year.

Antonio was the hardest worker you could ever meet. If you ever had the pleasure of meeting him, you’d know that. Those who knew Antonio would say he was their best friend. He was a loyal, dependable and dedicated friend who was generous with his time, love and resources.

Antonio was a proud man, husband, father and grandfather. He was a man that strived to better his life as well as his families. He carried a positive outlook throughout his entire life. You could see how proud he was to achieve his goals of obtaining his CDL, completely in English at Centralia College, buying his first home in 1999, becoming a husband, raising his children and grandchildren, getting his citizenship and living the American dream.

Antonio enjoyed spending his free time fishing out of Westport with his buddies, Pedro and Paul, and tending to his beloved garden and outdoor kitchen, where he would cook many family dinners and canned the harvest from his garden. If you were fortunate enough to receive a jar of his famous salsa, you knew. He would literally be out until dark all summer long tending to his passion.

Antonio is lovingly remembered by his wife, Heidi; their children, Adrian, Cristian, Alexa and Cameron; grandchildren, Bostin, Mickenna, Harper, Maximiliano, Rocky, Rowdy and Camila; his mother, Sandra; his father, Antonio; brothers, Lionardo and Victor; sisters, Susana, Maricela, Sandra and Rocio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at The Kodiak Room, 225 Sussex Ave. W., Tenino, Washington.

For those wishing to honor Antonio’s memory, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Gastric Cancer Foundation in his name at: gastriccancer.org/ways-to-give
