In loving memory of Jeannette Smith: 1937-2023

Posted

Jeannette Smith passed away Aug. 29, 2023, in Centralia, Washington. She was born Nov. 28, 1937, to Clebert and Leona Duncan in Centralia and lived a rich life there for 85 years.

Jeannette earned her high school diploma from Centralia High School in 1955 (Go Tigers!) and married Duane Smith on June 18, 1955, at Calvary Tabernacle in Centralia. She had a career as a secretary at Washington Elementary School in Centralia for 32 years. She also worked at the Centralia School District office for another nine years.

Jeannette loved spending time with her family, attending gospel concerts, playing the piano and organ, and taking Sunday road trips to the beach or the mountain. She had the best green thumb and absolutely loved flowers, her own as well as those of others.

Jeannette loved Jesus, her family, friends and music. She was faithful, kind, genuine, selfless and one of the sweetest people you ever met. She filled the room with laughter and would help anyone she could. She was a member of the Centralia Community Church of God, Christian Women’s Connection and Women’s Bible Study.

She is survived by her husband, Duane Smith; sons, Gary (Charlene) Smith and Mike (Linda) Smith; daughter, Debbie (Jeff) Wyman; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Don Duncan; and sister, Karen Murphy. She was predeceased by her parents; maternal grandparents, Emily and Milton McKinley; paternal grandparents, Laura and James Ambrose Duncan; and sister, Naomi Larson.
