In loving memory of Rosina L. McCarthy: 1925-2024

Posted

On Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, Rosina McCarthy passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 99.

Rosina was born on July 6, 1925, in Centralia, Washington, to Mike and Mary Nick, who came to the U.S. from Europe and settled in Centralia on Nick Road, named after her father. She was the middle daughter of three girls: Francis, Rosina and Marie.

After graduating Centralia High School, she worked for various jobs until she began her employment at Pacific NW Bell Telephone Company in 1944.

In 1949, she married Richard Hamilton and together they had four children: Scott, Bruce, Lana and Marc.

During her time with Richard, they were members of the Lewis County Sheriff's Posse and Foundation Breeders of the Appaloosa Association, and attended many horse shows and events promoting the breed. Rosina always had a keen eye for horses.

After Richard’s death in 1977, she married John McCarthy in 1980. John and Rosina enjoyed dancing and traveling all around the world together with friends. One of their favorite spots was Ocean Shores with her grandchildren. They took a lot of pride in their flower beds and landscape. Many varieties of flowers were passed down as Rosina was on the same property for her 99 years (born, raised and lived).

She also enjoyed cooking and canning. There was always something she had cooked or baked that she wanted people to try when they would pop in to visit. She documented everything, from dates to remember to her medical history. Her doctors were always impressed with her health and vitality.

Rosina was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Mary Nick; her first husband, Richard Hamilton; her son, Bruce Hamilton; and her sisters, Francis Culbert and Marie Smith.

She is survived by her husband, John McCarthy; her children, Scott Hamilton (JoAnn), of Centralia; Lana Davies (Steve), of Spokane; Marc Hamilton (Tracy), of Centralia; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. on Sept. 30, 2024, at Cattermole Funeral Home, 203 NW Kerron St., Winlock, Washington.
