An incarcerated Winlock man less than two months from his anticipated release allegedly violated multiple protection orders prohibiting him from contacting his ex-wife and children.

David W. Dupree, 55, is currently serving a sentence at Cedar Creek Corrections Center in Littlerock. His anticipated release date is May 23, according to court documents.

Dupree was transported to the Lewis County Jail on Tuesday, where he made a video appearance in Lewis County Superior Court to face three counts of violation of a protection order, each considered domestic violence and punishable by up to five years in prison.

Judge J. Andrew Toynbee set bail at $50,000 cash or bond, citing concern for community safety.

The judge noted additional concern that, without significant surety, Dupree would “seek to intimidate witnesses or otherwise interfere with the administration of justice,” based on what he said were Dupree’s six prior domestic violence cases in the past five years.

Dupree is scheduled to appear for an arraignment on April 2.

According to the charging information, Dupree allegedly violated the protection orders on or about Nov. 2 and Nov. 27 of 2025.

The probable cause affidavit filed by the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office alleges that Dupree committed these violations by communicating with his sister and friend over the phone, who then sent text messages to his ex-wife and children.

“The restraint provisions of each order prohibits Mr. Dupree from having contact with the protected party directly, indirectly, in person, or through others, by phone, mail, or electronic means,” the affidavit states.

Dupree allegedly made the calls while at Cedar Creek.

A text message sent by Dupree’s friend to the protected woman allegedly says that Dupree “told me he can have the rifles” and “asked me to store them at my house.”

The rifles, according to the woman, are located in a safe at her house.

“As part of Dupree's convictions, he is not allowed to own or possess firearms. In addition, he was subject to an order to surrender all firearms to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office on August 20, 2025,” the affidavit states.

During the investigation, the sheriff’s office reportedly obtained the recorded phone calls of Dupree speaking with his friend.

“In the recorded conversation, David Dupree talks about items in his safe and requested (the friend) to go to the house and knock on the door,” the affidavit states.

Investigators also reviewed phone calls made between Dupree and his sister.

In both instances, the phone calls preceded the messages sent to the protected individuals.

Dupree was convicted of felony stalking and two violations of a protection order — each considered domestic violence — on August 20, 2025. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison and one year of community custody, according to court records.

Dupree was also convicted of another protection order violation in a separate case.

Both cases involved the currently protected victims.

Chronicle reporting last July noted that Dupree was a health care provider in Lewis County, according to his attorney.
