Jodie Curtis and Eric Contreras square off for position on Winlock City Council

Posted

Jodie Curtis says she wants a spot on the Winlock City Council to be a “voice of the people.”

With a seat on the city council available, Curtis and her opponent, Eric Contreras, received the same three questions from The Chronicle and were asked to limit their responses to 150 words per question.

Ballots are due by 8 p.m. on Nov. 7. If a voter didn’t receive their ballot by Oct. 27, the county auditor’s office recommends visiting votewa.gov and selecting “my ballot,” calling 360-740-1278 or visiting 351 NW North St., Chehalis. If a registered voter has moved, they can update their registration with any of the options.

Jodie Curtis:

Going forward, what do you see as the biggest challenge facing Winlock?

I believe the biggest challenge going forward is reunifying the city since the annexation. The residents that are now in the city limits have lost trust in their government because of the manner in which the annexation took place. You do not name those residents in a lawsuit as a means of getting your way.

What is the biggest area for growth?

I believe the biggest area to grow is just to maintain and beautify our city, making it safe and desirable for business owners to own businesses, residents to do business and visitors to explore the quaint town that Winlock truly is.

Why do you think you're the right candidate to serve on the city council?

I am the right candidate to serve on the city council because I truly want to be the voice of the people that the city council is supposed to be serving. Residents will be able to call or email me at their discretion and if elected, I will bring any concerns to the council on their behalf.

Eric Contreras:

Contreras did not respond to three emails from The Chronicle requesting answers to the questions. Contreras has not submitted candidate information to the Lewis County Voters Guide beyond his contact information.
