Larch Mountain Little League completed a historic sweep Friday at home, as its 12-year-old team beat Montesano 8-5 at Hoss Field in Rochester in the District 3 title game.
It’s the third straight district title for the group, which won the 11-year-old district title last summer and the 10-year-old district crown the year before that.
On a league-level, the win completes the grand slam for Larch Mountain, which also won the district championships for 10-year-old softball, 10-year-old baseball, and 11-year-old baseball last week.
Now, all four of LMLL’s squads are bound for the state championship tournaments. The 12-year-old baseball team and 10-year-old softball squad will begin play July 15 — baseball in Poulsbo, softball in Woodinville. The other two teams get an extra week to prepare before beginning on July 22, with the 11-year-old team going north to Anacortes and the 10-year-old baseball squad going over the mountains to Othello.
With all four teams facing the possibility of needing hotel rooms for up to a week, Larch Mountain Little League is currently fundraising and asking for sponsorships and donations; more information can be found on its Facebook page.
For the three younger teams, the state tournaments will be the end of their summers. For the 12-year-olds, though, a state title — which would be another first for Larch Mountain — would send them through to the Western Regional tournament in southern California, the final step on the road to the Little League World Series.
