President Donald Trump has bragged about his ability to bring in foreign investments that he says will lead to more jobs in America. In a speech last month, Trump said, “Under eight months of Trump, we’ve already secured $17 trillion coming in, that has never been done before.”
The article written by ABC on Oct. 6 says the number represents a huge exaggeration. That’s not what I want to talk about.
I want to talk about what kinds of investments will actually build a better American economy for most Americans. I believe more foreign ownership in our businesses is the last thing we need.
In The Rural New Deal, a plan to revitalize rural America written by Progressive Democrats of America and The Rural Urban Bridge Initiative, states that what is needed to build businesses that provide good jobs and strong communities is to increase local investments.
Locally owned businesses care about their workers and the effect they have on the community. When businesses are owned by overseas companies or large international companies that have no real regional ties, they don’t care about the community that is producing the product. Often, these big multinational organizations have monopolized their market segment so they have tremendous power over local competition and drive out small family owned businesses.
Tell president Trump that we want locally owned businesses who source their materials locally and sell their product locally to be supported.
I know many readers will have a negative view of my opinion as soon as they see that I am pushing theories developed by Progressive Democrats. I would like you to have an open mind. Mainstream Democrats or Republicans have built an economy that only works for the elite or the very wealthy. Both sides need to look for real reform that will help common people.
