Letter to the editor: Centralia City Council District 2 outcome will need to wait for election certification

Posted

If you’ve been following local politics, you know the Centralia City Council District 2 race is still too close to call.

Neighbors keep asking how the count is going. As of Nov. 17, Leah Sisemore has 322 votes and I have 335, with very few — if any — ballots left to be counted across 120 contests countywide. The election will be certified on Nov. 25.

While we wait, I want to share two things I know for certain.

First, Leah Sisemore cares deeply about this community and wants to see our neighbors thrive. I’ve met her twice during our recent debates, and I consider her a sincere advocate for all. No matter which of us is ultimately seated on the council, Centralia will have a capable and dedicated representative working for a better future.

Second, you are qualified to serve. Many of you have asked what the requirements are to run for city council, county commission, school board or any other local office. The truth is simple: if you care about your neighbors and are willing to serve, you are qualified. When you look at who holds elected office today, remember — you are just as capable.

I hear this question often enough to know some of you are considering running next time, and I encourage you to do it. Thank you for your support, your questions and your commitment to our community as we wait for the final results.
