There was a good article in The Chronicle last week on salmon predation by seals and sea lions.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) permits tribes to shoot these predators with some caveats. The Cowlitz Tribe should do us all a great favor and wipe out several hundred of these critters at the confluence of the Cowlitz and the Columbia.
These sea mammals are smart and such an intervention would dissuade them from this wasteful practice.
