Letter to the editor: Deadly nationwide ICE storm warnings

Posted

I grew up in Minnesota. When we spoke of deadly ice then, it was a completely different ice than the national brand we have to be concerned with today: tires frozen flat on the bottom; roads, walkways and roofs having their fair share; and if you drove out on a lake, ice might fail to meet your expectations.

We learned to be informed, cautious and prepared to deal with it.

If you drive too close to it, the national brand of “ICE” is still a danger. But generally, its actual job is to make us safe — only targeting the worst of the worst.” (Nevermind that 3,800 children were deported in 2025.)

It’s really a simple job to accomplish if left to its own devices.

Here’s how to run an efficient law enforcement operation with $170 billion.

Supply brave young men with masks, machine guns, body armor and complete freedom to do anything they want. Parade them around on the streets, ratchet them down from helicopters and enrich them with a $50,000 hiring bonus. Lob tear gas, flash bang grenades and smoke bombs. Make it look like a genuine riot. Violently throw people to the ground, beat and pepper spray them, and when someone takes the bait by offering aid to the stricken, it is a sure bet he’s not one of ours. You’ve found one of the violent wife-beaters, child sex predators, illegal immigrant drug addicts and domestic terrorists you were looking for.

Murder is now the only “choice.” The threatened “massacre” that was “brandished” about is now prevented from becoming a reality. We had to beat him to a pulp, but we finally found the gun.

No need for research, investigation, warrants, probable cause or even the simplest observation of law. Just open and close the trap.

Oh, there are a few who prefer some of the old ways, but it is consistently failing. It’s just too time consuming and embarrassing to find out where the “suspect” lives, to batter down the door and drag the miscreant to jail in his underwear, only to discover that the man you were actually looking for, not only does not live there, but is already in jail.

It all boils down to choices, and some people just don’t know what side of their bread to butter, do they? The choice of not obeying illegal orders is now called treason, so bend over and consider how many dead are waiting for their day in court.

Seems to me if one wants to be a paid terrorist, one should apply at ICE. They seem to pay pretty good, and the immunity thing is a nice perk, too.

(Incidentally our sheriff recently declared that it is his “duty to protect the citizens of Lewis County” and if it comes down to ICE, he will not interfere; he’ll protect them instead of us. This is probably based on a recently aired principle that avows that taking the high moral ground is pointless.)
