Thanks for your reply to my recent letter to the editor, Tony Christen.
I suppose all we really need to do is look at behavior.
You know what we didn’t see in 2016, Tony? Mobs of Democrats smashing their way into the Capitol because Trump won his election.
We did see the mobs of Republicans doing exactly that in 2020, though, in an attempt to overturn the election that Trump lost. Didn’t we, Tony?
Some of them are your friends and neighbors. You remember your hero, the shirtless idiot with the horned helmet? That is a stain that doesn’t wash off.
Republicans. You attempted to overthrow our government with violence. You either did it, or you supported it. There is only one Republican Party. And, if you are in it, you tried to overthrow our government. With violence.
How about enough with the hypocrisy, Republicans? You are not some moral majority. Your party is led by a rapist. A felon. A serial liar.
Your little local Republicans are in that very same party. They believe the very same things as your party’s leader. And, if they don’t, they certainly lack the courage to say so in public.
And these, Lewis County, are the people you elect to positions of authority over you. As more of them seek that authority.
A smarter man than me once wrote: “You get the government you deserve.”
Here’s an example you will all soon understand: Enjoy paying your “Swope tax.” You are all doing without $600,000 worth of something Lewis County doesn’t get now, thanks to the failed legal pursuits of one man. And you put him there to do it to you.
Each of you reading this, get out your $6.75. Your share of the Swope tax. Send it to the county treasurer.
